The removal and recovery of waste such as salvaged wood is essential to reduce pressures on natural forests while striving to meet ever-increasing human demands for wood-based products. To support that commercial demand and encourage responsible practices, SCS Global Services (SCS) has developed the SCS Salvaged Wood & Fiber Standard to recognize, evaluate, and certify good practices for the recovery and reuse of un-utilized wood and other cellulosic biomaterial resources.

Salvaged Wood Verification allows organizations to demonstrate legal and environmental responsibility to consumers of their salvaged wood. The standard is for anyone that wishes to sell forest products that are traditionally neglected or discarded such as fire-killed wood, insect-killed wood, urban wood, agricultural waste, orchard waste, aquatic salvage, and more. It works to significantly lower the risk of trading in illegally salvaged wood materials.

“SCS Salvaged Wood verification helps communicate our company’s commitment to the environment. The SCS Salvaged Wood & Fiber Standard is the most reliable industry standard for verifying claims on recovered wood, and working with SCS on it means that we receive quality audits and superb customer service.”
- Richard E. Davis, President of Wood Products International
