Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) announced three educational tasting sessions focused on the flavor attributes of produce to be held at this year’s PMA Fresh Summit in Atlanta this weekend. A leader in third-party food safety and quality auditing, testing and certification services for retailers, growers, and seed companies, SCS will provide the only flavor education sessions at PMA this year.
Industry experts and convention attendees will participate in hands-on flavor panels, tasting watermelon and snacking tomatoes. Participating convention attendees can also win prizes. In each session, SCS Flavor and Sensory guru Wil Sumner, SCS Director of Testing Services, will guide participants on a hands-on journey through SCS's unique multi-level 15-point scale of sensory input, which generates a scientific comparison and profile of flavor and sensory rating, taking the first steps toward an SCS Flavor Rich™ Certification.
Forming the Expert Panel are food industry veterans representing retailer, grower, and seed company perspectives. SCS welcomes Greg Corrigan, Vice President of Produce and Floral for Raley’s Supermarkets, Jennifer Armen-Bolen, formerly of Syngenta Seeds and Nunhems and now a leading consultant, Martin Mazzanti, Chairman of The Produce Exchange, and Sean Frisby, VP Marketing & Category Management for Eurofresh Farms.
The Expert Panel Tasting Session will be held in Room B204 of the Georgia World Congress Center on Saturday, 10/15/11 at 1:30 p.m. To sign up to observe SCS’ PMA Expert Panel event and talk to the experts, drop by the SCS booth or go to: http://conta.cc/pma-flavor
The Consumer Experience Panels, which allow the audience to directly taste and compare watermelon and snacking tomatoes will be held at 3:00 p.m. in Room B204 on both Saturday, 10/15/11 and Sunday, 10/16/11.
